William Walton. Violin Concerto.
Kyung-Wha Chung, violin
The London Symphony Orchestra conducted by André Previn.
Terrific playing but, imho, not as great as Ida Haendel.Last edited by pastoralguy; 04-02-19, 22:45.

The Walton Violin concerto might make a good 'Recordings in Discussion' item.

Brahms
String Quartets OP.51 No.2; OP.67. Vegh Quartet, rec. 1954. Decca Heritage CD.
Beethoven
Diabelli Variations. Paul Lewis, HMCD 2011.
Schubert (vol.1) Symphony No.5 (c/w 3 & 8, not yet heard).
CBSO/Edward Gardner. Chandos 24/96 via Qobuz Studio. New Release 2019.
A really lovely, vivacious small-orchestral performance beautifully recorded in the Town Hall. But do we really need another cycle from this source, with so many wonderful Schubert sets and individual recordings in the world already? (They could at least have given us a 4-movement 8th...)
Churlish perhaps but it is a shame these great orchestras so often tread the familiar paths...Last edited by jayne lee wilson; 05-02-19, 17:25.
