A serious omission, given that the conductors seem to be Maderna and Petrassi himself, of real historical value... but the tracks are still greyed-out on the streamer....
Juano Mena's new recording of Messiaen's monster Turangalila Symphonie seems worth a shot?
Do tell. I only know of the Bergen recording, issued a little over 6 years ago . It's currently priced on amazon.co.uk at over twice that direct from Hyperion. At £6.50 for either the CD or lossless download from Hyperion, it is a clear 'no-brainer'.
[There is, of course, a more recent recording, though not commercially released, that being of the 2015 Proms performance with the BBCPO (Hartmann-Claverie, rather than Millar on ondes martenot).]

Reason: Update.
Villa-Lobos
Slowly working my way through the String Quartet (in numerical/chronological oder) and Choros (in CD order) box sets, which both arrived last week, and enjoying what I've heard so far.
Thanks for the tips.
The recording mentioned by mahlerei in post #4988 looks intriguing too!

Unfortunately Bryn, I haven't bought it as of yet but I will tell, once I have!

On Qobuz: Shostakovich - Symphony no.8, with the SWR-Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg conducted by Heinz Holliger, a live performance from 2005.
I found the combination of Holliger and Shostakovich unlikely and highly intriguing, expecting the performance to extract the maximum timbral subtlety from Shostakovich's orchestration, especially in the slow movement and the very end, but perhaps to miss the element of rawness which comes to the fore earlier in the symphony, and that was exactly what I heard in it. I liked the fact that Holliger isn't trying to put across some particular idea of what the piece is "about" but instead concentrates on the sound in all its expressive equivocation. I hereby commend this recording to interested forum members.
