This turns out to be a fascinating work, late romantic, never banal or overwrought but at times powerfully declamatory at others bordering on the fantastical, the big first movement occupying half of the entire work, and in an idiom somwhere between Berlioz and Reinecke, if such an improbable association can be imagined! Anyway, well worth hearing.
