The orchestra does, of course, have form in this work, of which Rafael Kubelik's 1981 recording (on Panton) is strong evidence (it was recorded in the Herkulensaal, rather than the Philharmonie am Gasteig of the new issue). I'm a big fan of Jakub Hruša - and like very much his earlier Exton recording from Tokyo. This new one is better played with a more rounded recording (it sounds fine as a 24/48 download). Not a work I necessarily want to hear very often but would certainly return to this recording with pleasure.
Hopefully will get a proper listen tonight, and prove myself wrong !!I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Thanks HD.

Bruckner: Symphony No. 3 in D Minor (1873 Original Version Ed. Leopold Nowak 1977)
Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra/Herbert Blomstedt (from the Bruckner Symphonies 1 - 9 BPO own label set)
I can't say that the release of this set got my blood racing but, as it is available from 7 Digital as a 24/48 download for the princely sum of £11.99 (no notes; no fancy box; no Blu Ray; but as cheap as chips for all nine symphonies) and as I read an enthusiastic review somewhere, I've duly downloaded it. Worth the money for this performance alone (from 2017). Unsurprisingly, very similar to his Leipzig recording. Beautifully structured, HB keeps the music moving which, in this version of the symphony, is important as the (longish) first movement can in less skilful hands fail to cohere as a whole.
