Thanks for mentioning this disc. It caught my eye for several reasons:
    I'm a big Kasarova fan.
    Some early F-D.
    The combination of those two!
Chance to discover some new song repertoire - as the disc title suggested.

I listened to some tracks online and decided I needed to acquire it. Especially having read that the CD lacked texts, I went for a download and spent some time online tracking down the texts.

A most enjoyable "Entdeckung" and I duly read up a bit on Henri Marteau. Being married to a German, I was interested in the multicultural aspects of his life - not all positive.

Some very informative background info here. In German.

Raff - his Op.86 no 1, a thoroughly charming piece whose title I don't have time to check as my lunch break is almost up!
        Best regards,
        Jonathan

Mozart - string quintet in C K515 - Salomon Quartet with Simon Whistler

Thanks to Bryn for pointing out this bargain (2-disk set of Mozart string quintets for 7 quid something).

Wonderful double-album, with one of the best Prometheus ballets I've heard (I go back to Louis Lane here), possibly even better than the Atenea/Petrou of a few years ago. The 7th here is more forthright and muscular than the fascinating Currentzis, but still with lovely warmth and subtlety. The recording is exceptional even in an outstanding series: a truly big Beethoven sound, but transparent to detail with perfectly natural, spacious balance. A joy in itself.

Bartok Piano Concerto No. 2 - a work that clearly holds no terrors for the young replacement soloist Denis Kozhukhin. Sir Simon conducts the LSO. (Sky Arts).

On a whim, Mendelssohn: Overture to A Midsummer Night's Dream, the first item in Vol. 4 of the Gielen Edition. What a great combination that team made, and how undersung does Geilen tend to be?!

Now, from the first disc in Vol. 5, Bartok's Wooden Prince Suite. I usually avoid the Suite, much prefering the full ballet music, but this bunch really pull it off, for me.

                              Hindemith SQ #3
                              Amar Quartet.

Hindemith’s gift for melody much in evidence here. And the CD has a lovely cover image, spoiled a bit by that Naxos white surround.
