        Panufnik: Sinfonia Sacra/Sinfonia Rustica

        Monte Carlo Opera Orchestra/Composer

Continuing my trawl through long-forgotten LPs, this chimed with Jayne's recent posts. Perhaps not the greatest orchestral playing (certainly by comparison with the excellent Störgards Panufnik CD on Ondine), but fine recording for its day (mid 60s) - and, unsurprisingly, fine performances of these approachable and well-wrought works.

Quite beautiful I think. I remember its premiere at the Proms very well! When it comes to his orchestral music though, my favourite is Sea and Sky (1979-80), a kind of La Mer for our times... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIT6BlSgXWE

Too bad the Grimwood appears to be completely unavailable.

I second that enthusiastically. In fact, you've prompted me to listen again now.

Finnissy - Sea & Sky (see above for link)

Thoroughly enjoyed this. I like the long sustained lines, the music seems to unravel itself in long sentences quite naturally (this applies to Red Earth too) and everything is fresh and often sensuous.
