One of the most recent Nielsen cycles (2015) and one which has become a real favourite for me - P-Järvi tells it like it is - excellent listening!

Never heard of the lady - let's see what LvB dictated to her.

        Ad nauseam, thanks again.

            Ferneyhough - Les Froissements...

What a wonderous piece of music, excellently played by ELISION. The fluttering is conjured more than once...

              Ferneyhough - Inconjunctions

Another fantastic piece. It is unusual for Ferneyhough's recent music in that it doesn't sound as though formally it's comprised of many small segments.

                Haydn String Quartets Op.64 1-6.
                Quatuor Festetics. Arcana CDs.

"How do I love thee? Let me count the ways..."

My daily aubade/nocturne on the bedside Tivoli for over a week now.......
I could listen to the Lark for ever, but I'm also very taken with the 64/1, which has two counterpoised minuets and no slow movement...
I'd never really got to know or love these as well as Op.76 back in the day, but this gorgeously played and recorded set has replaced that neglect with devotion.

                Perfect foil to Bruckner Symphonies!

I'll listen to this later... did you ever hear the 1988 Wand 6th, Pet? Looking at RO's original reviews of each, he does seem rather more enthusiastic about (well, blown away by) the 1988 one, for sound as well as music, and is especially critical of the later finale...
I note too, his comment on how this music "is better suited to a Klemperer, a Rosbaud, a Wand...."
Amen to the first two at least!

Can't find the 1988 one on Qobuz but, despite focussing on very different Brucknerians now, after reading RO (2/91) I ordered a 2ndhand CD pronto!
Heard 1976 vintage Köln/ Wand last night, will post on the 6th thread soon....

No, of the Wand recordings I've got the 1976 Cologne RSO, the 1995 NDR SO, the 1995 DSO Berlin and the 1999 Munich PO. I might as well make it a full house and have therefore ordered the one remaining 2nd hand copy of the 1988 recording. I've been keeping Momox in business so far this year!

Any striking differences with Munich or DSO?

Will need to revisit as I've not played either for a while, though I've got a great liking for the sound on the DSO set. You are, in any case, much more expert than I am at assessing the relative merits of different recordings! Wand usually prefaced his performances of Bruckner 6 with Haydn's Symphony no 76 and both the DSO Berlin and Munich PO sets include it making for a very satisfactory concert.

Wand is never a name that trips off the tongue in general discussion, and yet all his recording that I have are quite superb.

Very strange. My next theme might be a season of his recordings.
