Systema Naturae by Mauro Lanze and Andrea Valle

Thanks to Richard Barrett for bringing this fascinating sounding composition to my/our attention. I wonder how he came to know of it and them (the composers) in the first place?

              Hope you enjoy it.
A good companion to his Mahler 1, imho!

And iirc the Szell S6 is pretty stunning too.

Dieter Ammann: Glut (TOZ, Markus Stenz) from the TOZ 150 'boxed' set.

Highly eclectic with a massive debt to John Adams in particular.

That's interesting - I don't know any of his music but I met him a few years ago when we were both teaching on the same course, and he had a lot of glowing things to say about Boulez. Not that Boulez and John Adams are mutually exclusive of course, if one is eclectic enough.

Something I missed when it came out in February but which will certainly get played more than this first time before the end of the day:

Mozart, Haffner Serenade, with the Kölner Akademie conducted by Michael Alexander Willens, on BIS.

It comes with a "filler" in the form of the Musikalischer Spaß (giving an overall duration of 86 minutes!) which I can generally do without, but never mind. There isn't much to choose between this and my previous favourite Haffner from Frans Brüggen, but after all this time I'm beginning to tire a bit of the soft-focus approach taken by Brüggen and his recording team. I really can't find anything to fault in this new recording. It's an unexpected but highly welcome diversion in the absorption with Bruckner that's occupying most of my "classical" listening time at the moment.

                      It arrived then!

Listened to the Kempe Beethoven 5 - the Last durr on the du du du durrs at the beginning seems to have very held final durr.

Sacconi Quartet - live concert from Folkestone

I think this may be available on Youtube or some other online source for a while after the event. I'm sure the quartet would appreciate donations if you like it.

Going back to this recently, my 2019 Record of the Year, a very free take on the familiar which caused much controversy here.... always a good sign!
                                I still adore it...
