I too like Abbado's Ravel: I guess it got overshadowed at the time by the Dutoit Montreal releases.

        Beethoven
        Piano sonatas Op2 1/2/3
        Glenn Gould

Just perfectly suited to my mood today. Sublime performances, IMVHO. Although 'young' Beethoven, Glenn Gould gives them a wonderfully mature sound.
I have always thought he is sometimes very unfairly maligned.

Who, Gould by some critics or Beethoven by Gould?

I feel there is something special about the Monteux but I must give the Munch and Boulez a listen.

'Amers', a cello concerto, is the most impressive of these.

I wonder if you still think that, cloughie, after listening through.
I found it curiously uninvolving, though that might just be my mood this afternoon.

A shame, since, like you, I can sometimes rate this as my favourite RVW work; but then I hear the fifth symphony again, and that supplants it!
Never mind. Other recordings are available; several are on my shelves.

Lucky Adrian Boult, to have had this score dedicated to him.

I’ve now listened to the Elder courtesy of Tidal three times and, apologies, Cloughie but, like Pulcinella, I find it uninvolving to the extent that it almost seems perfunctory. My absolute favourite of the numerous performances to which I have access is an - excellent - off-air recording of Sakari Oramo and the BBC SO at the Proms. The ending, which, with Elder, is just a bit ordinary, is, in Oramo’s hands, a thing of wonder. I’m being unfair to Elder as Oramo is not generally available (pity) but, once heard, never forgotten.

                            Downloaded from https://milanazaririchardbarrett.ban...m/album/mirage

Just be aware that if you want to burn it to CD-R you will have to convert it from 48kHz, 24 bit to 44.1kHz, 16 bit first. Oh, and the last of the 5 works on in the download is a binaural mix, so best listened to via headphones. The other four works are from live 2 channel stereo recordings as seen and heard online, recently. Much higher resolution here though.

Actually, come to think of it, some modern CD players can handle FLACs burned to CD-R as a data disc. If you're fortunate enough to have such a player, all five items would fit on a single CD-R in FLAC format.

Interesting that thought there has been a number of recordings of Job over the years Boult’s 1954 recording is for me the one to beat. I have not listened through the whole of the Elder, and not with all stops out on the KEFs. So will reserve my potehtial enthusiasm until then!
As for favourite RVW - top 5 Job, S3, S5, S2 and Tallis - Boult (or Barbirolli, where available - pity there is no Job By JB!).
