Very odd cover - there is still a thread for those lurking somewhere I think.
Presumably, you did not see the single quote marks or the pages of manuscript being scattered by the "Wurlitzer"* pantechnicon, either. The reference was to that aspect of the cover image; Stoki at the wheel with Glenn as navigator, carrying Ludwig as a hitch-hiker.

*It is difficult to see in the reduced image, but the badge above the radiator reads "Wurlitzer".

Surely any whiff of horses is explained by the fact that they're driving the wrong way up a one-way street having consumed a vast amount of beer at the Nag's Head.

Yet another Beethoven Fifth Symphony. This time the new Les Siecles/Roth. Spirited start. Let's hear how it progresses. Looking forward to listening to the Gosssec, which I do not know at all.

            Just starting on this.....
Now you're talking. Anything Midori Seiler does is OK by me.

Returning to Schubert for a moment, I never liked Richter in that sonata either. So there you go.

The talk on the other thread led me to this from 'The Concerto Album' on EMI:

              Bartok - piano concerto no. 3 - Argerich/Orchestre Philharmonique de Montréal/Dutoit

Bartok: Concerto for two pianos and percussion
                Gold and Fizdale/NYPO/Bernstein

I got to know this orchestrated version before the original Sonata, as it was the coupling for the Music for SPC (NUJMB A-level set work, 1969, which some of my school friends were studying).

It always disappoints me, every time I hear it performed, since much of the vital energy and wicked humour of the original seems lost, to me.

I think you're right, but I still enjoy it from time to time!

I like it. Maybe because it's familiar and unfamiliar at the same time, but it seems to me that if this were the only version of this music I wouldn't think there was anything wrong with it.

Now spinning: Harnoncourt's Mozart Early Symphonies set. I don't think I'm going to get through all seven CDs, but the first one is exactly what I need this morning. I just love the sound of this ensemble in Mozart and Haydn. I wish NH and friends had made a complete recording of both sets of symphonies.
