Appropriately enough given the tempest raging outside, listening to Severin von Eckardstein's (who he? - Ed) breathtaking traversal of Nicolai Medtner's so-called "Night Wind" sonata on the German K&K label (Qobuz 24/96). This really is barnstorming playing, recorded in sensational sound on a magnificent 1901 Steinway. This music demands a truly transcendental technique and this von Eckardstein clearly possesses in no small measure. Anyone who doubts this is great music should hear this!

Monteux's recording of Enigma with the LSO. Tip top in every way.

I don't know these works at all. Very elusive music.

I've been mooching around the house all today with these works on repeat on the CD player. Still elusive!

                          A rather good collection, there!

                          More Bruckner from Lorin Maazel.

How are you reacting to Maazel's Bruckner?

Le Tombeau de Couperin, one of those pieces that I enjoy in either piano or orchestral form.

He’s certainly has his own ideas but I like his interpretations quite a bit.
