Messiaen: Un oiseau des arbres de Vie (Oiseau tui), orch. Dingle (BBC PO, Collon), but where to place it in the context of Éclairs sur l'Au-Delà …?

[Ah, it appears that it would have been placed immediately before the eventual 3rd movement, L’oiseau-lyre et la ville-fiancée (The Lyrebird and the Bridal City).]

[[I have been looking for a recording of Éclairs sur l'Au-Delà … which might make a plausible match for Oiseeau tui. Since the only performance of the work was at a 2015 Prom, it needs to be a Prom performance, of which there have only been two. The Berliner Philharmoniker/Rattle has a rather distinct orchestra sound. That of the BBCSO is a little closer to that of the BBCPO, so the Andrew Davis performance looks to be the better option (an I prefer it, anyway). That's for tomorrow, though.]]

Is that a recording or was it a Concert? I have been listening to the two Messiaen CDs included in a Boulez collection that he made with the Cleveland Orchestra

Recording I think? In any case it is performed by Orchestre de l'Opéra Bastille under Myung-Whun Chung.

Currently listening to Beethoven 4 - Cleveland Orchestra under Szell.

I seem to recollect that in the deep and distant past, it was. But by whom, I have not the slightest idea, let alone who took the 'Gold star'

Yes. Maybe twice? Järvi? And then Rattle and/or Haitink. All fine but none would be my BaL choice.

Good choice for a stormy morning!
But which version from my shelves: Barshai, Haitink, Jansons, Rattle?
Actually, BBCPO/Sinaisky, a BBC MM release that I think others hereabouts speak highly of!

Raiskin, Mark Wiggesworth or the RCO/Kondrashin recording, for me.
