I saw Erich Leinsdorf conduct Beethoven’s 9th at the Proms, late 60s, would that have been?

... ah, you're lucky! Have you seen the prices those ones can command?

But the content on the cheaper version I posted is, I think, identical.

I envy you your one - it wd match better with the others I have in the series...

Mine was a CD I received for review on 2007.

It's certainly a wonderful Vivaldi series on Naïve. I have a dozen or so of the series that are all out of the top drawer.

I you admire Rolf Lislevand you should like 'Belle Homicide: Manuscrit barbe':

Recorded at night I love the inclusion of bird and animal sounds.

For what it's worth it was my 'record of the year' for 2008

Stravinsky - Petrushka, The Rite of Spring, Four Etudes for Orchestra
Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Dorati
                Mercury, 1993 (CD).

Stravinsky, Dorati and Mercury at their considerable best.

And as chance would have it:

                  Stravinsky
                  The Firebird
                  The Rite of Spring
Columbia Symphony Orchestra, Igor Stravinsky (Sony Classics)

What a stunning performance it is, too.....

Brahms, second string quintet (Brandis Quartet with Bret Dean on viola). One of his greatest works IMO.

Martinu: Fantaisies symphoniques, H. 343 (Symphony No. 6)

Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra/Vojtech Spurny (recorded 2015, Zlin, Czech Republic)

One of the "add-ons" to the Martinu PCs order from Prague, at the Charles Munch end of the scale in terms of tempi, rather than, say, Jiří Bělohlávek. Excellent modern recording.

J.S. Bach. 'Cello Suites arranged for violin by Rachel Podger

I bought these discs from PRESTO the day they were released but they've stayed in their plastic wrapping until today. If I had to chose ONE recording to take to the Desert Island it would probably be Fournier's recording of these works. And so it's been a real leap of faith for la Podger to play them on the fiddle. I was pretty sure I'd either love them or absolutely hate them.

Well, I'm thrilled to find that they are wonderful! They really DANCE as opposed to being somewhat lumbering on the violincello. And beautifully played!
