Had never even heard of the composer until a dinner guest on Wednesday mentioned this piece.
He's just sent the link (which I will post on the YouTube with score thread too).

Chandos have recorded a fair bit of his music; does anyone else know/recommend it?
I have a feeling there may have been a brief forum conversation about him at some point. Suffolk Coastal was quite keen on a couple of the symphonies, so I have lined the 3rd up for a play.
What did you make of the work(s) you listened to ?

    ( managed a 5.5 k training run today.......)
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Certainly taken by the sounds and textures sufficiently to investigate the whole CD, which is on order.
I read though (Amazon review of another CD of his music) of a certain 'sameness' to his pieces, so will be interested to hear what you think of S3.

Not my top 3rd, but a lovely, impulsive performance, not too neat and tidy, and with gorgeous wide-open, layered, mellow sonorities...

          BTW, this.....

...is still top of my non-Proms playlist...see above, but now getting into the Cello Concerto here (last, longest and most searching work on the album)... remarkable..... how often do you hear a new piece and think....god that's wonderful.... I've really never heard anything quite like that before...

          Do seek out it out....
Ludovic Morlot, I think is fast becoming one of those conductors to be reckoned with.

I’ve liked everything he has done so far.

Just heard the finale of Villa Lobos Choros No 10 on In Tune before the Prom started. What terrific stuff! Must seek this out.

You could do a lot worse than this (though I don't think I paid as much!):

Thanks, but a rather a steep price! The Eduardo Mata recording was used on In Tune. I'll look around.

Not that steep for a 7 CD set!

Sorry, didn't look properly! Was in a bit of a hurry while listening between pieces to the Prom. Just £6 a disc so not bad after all.

It's all the Choros and Bachianas.
                        Take the plunge!
I think they're more interesting than the piano concertos, which coincidentally I listened to this afternoon.

I also recommend the BIS Villa-Lobos box. You do get a decent booklet with the disc box which is worth having especially since the box contained (for me) many new or unfamiliar works.

Talking of disc boxes I took the Sofronitsky Brilliant box off the shelf this morning more or less at random. Just enjoying Chopin Mazurkas.
