During a clearout session at the weekend I rediscovered the below oddity, and it was just as I'd remembered it maybe 40 years back. The Cowell and Cage are somewhat passable, but the Stockhausen interpretation was on decidedly thin ice - though kudos to Forsyth (and Decca's Ace of Clubs folk) for going ahead with such repertoire back then. Shortly afterwards Forsyth was of course signed up by the BBC for Saturday evening's The Generation Game and the rest, as they say, is history.

Good find Boilk, now on ebay? I’ll try to get a copy to replace my worn out Les Dawson LP of similar works! However I think you may have slipped up with the fonts as they do not match the usual ACL typeface! However a good entry for the Poisson d’Avril awards!

Stockhausen though was enthusiastic about Forsyth's playful approach to Klavierstück X, calling it a "good game".

Sadly, Windows 8 doesn't come with too many narrow serif fonts but, cloughie, there's nothing wrong with the fonts below, so you must be convinced by this one?

                That’s better - I remember that one - didn’t step-brother Tim write the lyrics!

...and he liked the composers because there was an endless conveyor belt of works to play!

The seventh disk of the Boulez Domaine Musical, and the second dedicated to the second Viennese school. Currently it's Berg's three pieces for orchestra, which sounds amazing - sort of like Scriabin if he had composed better for orchestra. I also note that John Williams pilfered much of this for the Star Wars sound track in its more mysterious/ominous moments, and this, for me, is quite a pleasurable association.

                        Fascinating and creatively insightful association!
I'd never noticed that (even as a big Star Wars fan who still cries when the end credits go up and those great fanfaring trumpets sound again...)..
