I haven’t heard either yet. I rather like this conductor too. Thanks Mahlerei!

As noted in the “Recent Mahler” thread, change of recording venue to the Kölner Philharmonie a big improvement on the 5th. He paces the music really well, Sara Mingardo is an excellent soloist, he doesn’t overdo the hinaufziehen and the orchestral detail is a joy to hear.

Another Lp I've had transcribed to cd. This one is phenomenal! I'd be amazed if there was any paint left on the studio walls after this recording was made.
Listening to this again. Tremendous music making.

                Biber
                Harmonia artificioso-ariosa: diversi mode accordata.
Musica Antiqua Köln/Reinhard Goebel. Archiv CD.

(Sorry I failed to respond to your earlier ask, Bbm2)...Keep playing this...still hoping to fall in love.... a rather austere, if very original, masterpiece, perhaps?
But it is the only recording I know well... so I'll have to try the Rare Fruits (much favoured by J F-A) and others (there aren't very many) at some point...

"Rich pickings but Rare Fruits win by a short stalk" was J F-A's lovely comment back in 9/1996, comparing with Purcell & Tafelmusik

Beethoven: Piano Concertos 4 and 5 (Minnaar/de Vriend). I particularly like Minnaar's cadenza for the first movement of the 4th.

I love Biber's music. I haven't heard his music for ages. Must be time for a session!

The 1950s Fuchs and Balsam. I wouldn’t dare suggest Szeryng Haebler.

Inevitably, the 'Kreutzer' was always my favourite and my pianist friend and I used to knock the living daylights out of it as students, but as I've got older I've found myself enjoying No.10 a lot more. The first time I was conscious of it was in the terrible winter of 2010 when I couldn't get home from the hospital where I worked. I ended up staying there for 3 days in an empty room where I listened to the one CD I had with me which I'd recently bought in a charity shop of Peter Cropper playing it with pianist Martin Roscoe. I must have played it at least 20 times on continuous play so I got to know it really well.

The Perlman/Ashkenazy version is terrific but, to be honest, I'd be hard pressed to find a bad recording of it.

Ooh! Why not? I've got it in my Szeryng big box so I may pop it on now!
