Rich Duckworth's mp3s of 'rough mixes' of the July 2015 Union Chapel, Islington performance of Cardew's The Great Learning (Paragraph 1 entirely from Rich's centre of chapel 8 mic. tree, the other 6 Paragraphs also incorporating my recordings from three balcony positions surronding the nave). Around 8 hours in all. Paragraph 3 just starting.

            Tippett: Symphony 4.
The new Hyperion recording (BBCSSO/Brabbins), broadcast this afternoon.

Followed it (well, to be honest, I got lost a few times, but soon found my place again) with the score (£5, bought in February 1982; manuscript, not typeset, so an added challenge!).
Tremendous attention to detail that I'd not spotted before in the other recordings (not that I have followed them all with the score), so I'm looking forward to the CD release, presumably with the early symphony as its coupling, early next year.

I'm now approximately a third of the way into Paragraph 7 of The Great Learning, but will certainly be accessing the Tippett soon after this ends. Quite a swift performance by historical standards, only around 70 minutes, compared to well over the 90 minutes I am used to. There again, I seem to recall there was some pressure on getting us to finish by 10 pm that night, so I was making a point of choosing pitches at the extremes of my range, to exhaust my lung capacity while keeping to both spirit and letter of the score.

Tried to be clever but had misunderstood Bryn's posting.

A work which didn't seem to have much appeal when mention on this forum awhile back, but which I find tremendously moving.

No. Not only was it not taken during Paragraph 7, but I was behind the camera, operating it. Come to that I was also elsewhere up in the balcony during most of Paragraph 7. My avatar is of me, though over 46 years ago.

                        J. S. Bach: Motet "Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied" BWV 225
                        Vocalconsort Berlin
                        Marcus Creed

                        [interval]

                        Mahler: Symphony No 5
                        Berliner Philharmoniker
                        Herbert von Karajan

(This was the programme when Hahler himself conducted the Vienna Philharmonic in his 5th on Dec 7 1905. Franz Schalk conducted the Bach. A programme worth reproducing, I thought).

Tonight, I'm doing what is called a 'sit up' where I stay in a separate room from a client and listen to him breath , only providing assistance if he claps or becomes distressed. It's a long haul, 22.00 until 08.00, so it's nice to have Solo Bach on very quietly to keep me company!

Mrs. PG has Amazon Prime so she's been offered a 3 month trial of Amazon Music which I am now sampling The delights contained herein. Ironically, I've started with Kim Kardashian playing the 'cello suites on the viola which is cheating a bit since Mrs. PG is giving me them on cd for Christmas. However, the sound quality will be infinitely better through our big system than through my iPad's speakers.

I heard a story the other day that whenever Ms. Kaskashian presents her credit/debit card she is always asked if she's related to the Kardashian family! Anyway, beautiful playing.
