As I have mentioned before on these pages in my view the Enescu Octet is a great work that I enjoy more now than Mendelssohn's Octet; which I guess I've probably heard too often. Some years ago now at Lake District Summer Music at Kendal I greatly enjoyed attending a festival performance of the work. I also enjoy his Wind Decet.

Total agreement from me about this wonderful work.

I notice that folks are not posting album covers here. Is it that the site admin prefers we don't? I like to because it is an easy way to show what I am listening to and it is fun looking at the covers of what others are listening to. So, assuming for now that it is okay, here is today's listening:

I really don'tknow much about Enescu and I've never heard the octet. I only have recordings of his "Impressions d´enfance for Violin and Piano, Op. 28 (1940)", which I must say is phantasmagoric, and his symphony #3 and Concert Overture Op. 32. With so much to listen to, I doubt that I will ever get to know him better.

Oh dear! As commented elsewhere, the mezzo in Jeremiah is very upfront (and not to my liking); Rana in Age of Anxiety is exciting, but I prefer the new Rattle recording with Zimerman; Dame Josephine is indeed a star in Kaddish, but it's a piece I still struggle with (it's that old 'pieces with narration' bugbear). Just into the riffs now.
I quite enjoyed the Pappano set but agreed the Zimerman/Rattle is Far superior

                  As the clouds gathered.....

Stravinsky: Piano works (solo and concertante)
                  Michel Béroff/Orchestre de Paris/Ozawa (EMI 2CD set)

Still a bit tempted by the Osborne/BBCSSO/Volkov concertante works on Hyperion.
                  Anyone got it?

                            Thanks....I will.
At least, like the Béroff, it should have the repeat in Movements.

                              Now this is good.

For some reason, I have never taken to the 1910 suite he recorded with the BBCSO, but that might be more a reflection of the extracts that comprise that suite.
