Monteverdi played by a group directed by Nadia Boulanger before the war.

I know it is hopelessly un HIPP with a piano etc but I think the performances get to the heart of the music in a special way.

My Helios LP is not in the best shape so I downloaded it again from Qobuz for £3.99!

Never mind the how they are, it's the quality of the musicianship involved that counts.

After this spell binding, very special performance of Britten's War Requiem, from the Proms, I am very surprised that they programmers didn't have Tippett's A Child of Our Time on?

            Here it is.

Sir Michael Tippett A Child of our Time.
            Cynthia Heyman(soprano), Cynthia Clarey(mezzo-soprano)

This year's programme has focussed on the centenary of the end of the First World War, Bbm (the Britten connection being the Owen texts) - next year is the 80th anniversary of the start of the Second - I wouldn't be surprised if the Proms will commemorate that anniversary, nor if the Tippett features as part of any such events.

Yes, how true, Ferney. Tippet's was about the second but still in essence, not a bad link up. I do hope they programme the work though.

So far today I'm listening to the Mosaïques' late Beethoven quartets, which I chose more or less at random (if there is such a thing) but I have the feeling I'll be spending some considerable time with these recordings in the next days.
Haven't you got some Stravinsky to listen to?
                  Just asking.

I was home for a week during which time it was sitting on my desk patiently waiting, and now I'm away again. (My only excuse is the Beethoven is on Qobuz so I don't have to remember to take it with me!)

Amongst other things, I’m working my way through the Gergiev complete Prokofiev symphonies.
Currently #2,which is sounding to my taste.

It certainly is! The orchestra is very well recorded but the chorus are set too far back for my taste. An enjoyable recording, nevertheless, that doesn't displace Ancerl or Kubelik for excitement and sense of occasion. Another favourite of mine is with the Brno State Philharmonic and Frantisek Jilek on a Supraphon CD. A thrilling and thrillingly recorded performance from 1979 that never gets mentioned anywhere. It's on Supraphon SU3045-2211 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Janacek-Gla...eywords=AMARUS
