... I am enjoying this chamber version [piano, flute, violin, cello] of the Mozart Piano Concertos (arr: Hummel) with Fumiko Shiraga, Henrik Wiese, Peter Clemente, Tibor Bényi -

But, o! - it wd have been so much more interesting had she used a decent Walter, Lagrassa, Haschka, Schmidt, Böhm, or Pfiste rather than her preferred Bösendorfer, Fazioli, Yamaha...

        Debussy

Images livre I; Clair de Lune; L’Isle Joyeuse.
        Simon Trpčeski, Piano.

          Ravel
          Ma Mère l’Oye; Shéhérazade, ouverture;
          Le Tombeau de Couperin.
          Les Siècles, Françoise-Xavier Roth

Certainly a very good follow up to their last Ravel disc, which had commanding performance of Daphnis.

            Brahms Piano Quintet Op 34.
            Ironwood.

A JLW recommendation. Kind of perfect for a hot languid summer afternoon.

                  Hope you enjoy them, Bbm.
I bought them on jlw's recommendation, iirc, and (coincidentally) listened to numbers 1 and 2 yesterday afternoon. Number 1 seemed particularly suited to the sultry heat we were experiencing, or at least I thought so, which is why I chose it!

I don't have that set, but I'm listening to Orchestre National De France under Charles Dutoit. Symphony #2, arguably the strongest of the four - it's certainly my favourite of them ........

That's very unusual to have as a favourite...fascinating. I must admit to still being a bit baffled by the 2nd, even tending to shy away from it when I'm in the Roussel mood. But you must, must hear Eschenbach's Paris recording if you're fond of it - a coloristic, phantasmagorical wonder... when I do feel up to it that is the one I go back to. I never found another to match it for vision and imagination. He knows it is very different from the other three...and plays it with that understanding. Perhaps ambiguity is the essence of Roussel 2 - which may be why I never feel I've "got there"...as if I have to begin again with every listen...

I do love the second movement though, often play it on its own, it feels like a tone-poem...

Next time I’m in a Roussel #2 mood, I’ll check out the Eschenbach via streaming

Yes, the ‘Modere’ second movement is wonderful.

Did you know that a version of the Pour une Fête de Printemps (darker piece than the title suggests) began life as a scherzo for the 2nd Symphony (which had long gestation across the turbulence of war)? Try playing it just before the 2nd, (or if you feel mischievous, substituting it for the modéré...)

I must say I don't know very much about Roussel beyond having enjoyed his four symphonies over many years.

Try ‘Bacchus and Ariadne’ and ’Festin d’Araignee’ .
