    Just the essentials.

Nice cover, for starters. I’ll give it a spin later.
The booklet is a bit of a disappointment - it doesn't give the recording dates of the works, nor anything about the cover artwork (is it one of Ferneyhough's own, I wonder).

Still - "great disc, disappointing booklet" is the right way round!

Indeed. I too searched for info about the cover art work, but there's nothing... But there is the recording dates for the work, on the last but one page - two orchestral works - 26/2/2011, Liber Scintillarum - 22/7/2012, Missa Brevis - 10/6/2006.

          Currently: Roussel Symphony #3.
          RSNO. Deneve.

Pretty excellent recording, I would say.
Not bad, but if you really want to hear how it should go....https://www.amazon.co.uk/Symphonies-...mphonies+munch
From the mouth of Roussel's chief chevalier.
There are few CDs I treasure more.

Can't see it on Qobuz, maybe Spotify will have it. But the CD is quite cheap and good-sounding (much better than the later over-processed Elatus reissue) - why not spoil yourself. Get momox to fly it over - they're usually pretty quick.
I love the recordings by Janowski, Eschenbach and Cluytens (a French band - especially a 1960s one - is a must in this music), but this Munch reading is the one I go back to most. The ecstatic first climax in the 3rd's adagio (at the end of the fast section) has never been matched, let alone surpassed, for sheer abandoned euphoria. Those trumpets!

There's an Andrew Post who is credited in various recording and audio editing roles for NMC and other labels. I wonder if it's the same person.

Thanks Jayne. I shall chew over a purchase of the Munch.

Quick fantasy Proms question, which Roussel symphony other than the third, and which Orchestra/ conductor would you programme, given a free hand?

Anyway, going back to the new Ferneyhough cd, I restricted myself to La Terre est un Homme....... If I was younger I would say it was awesome, but that probably doesn’t do it justice.

As far as the Roussel symphonies are concerned, there is a recording on Spotify but on the Naïve Label. There is also a coupling of his Bachus et Ariane Suite no.2.

                    Debussy
                    Piano Preludeas Book 1.

Why is it Ferney's booklet doesn't have the recording details but mine does?

It does - on the left-hand side of page 14.

I was looking at the right-hand side.

It would be charitable not to enquire further.

I'd put the sensuous, evocative, slower-moving No.1 (Poème de la Forêt) in Part One, and the lighter more dynamic 4th in Part Two. How about Krivine with his Orchestre National de France, or Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the COE?

Last night's Radio 3 in Concert (via iPlayer). Have to admit I saved it and edited out the entirely justified inter-movement applause. Fine for the live event but not so welcome in repeated listening. Light and punchy 'Eroica'. Very much my cup of tea, (or should that be a 60 bean cup of coffee?).
