Thanks for the recommendations both , (also for not flagging up my trypo !!)
I was looking at the Diotima last night, so that was on my radar already. It's available on youtube.
Currently trying the Gringolts # 2,( released Sept 2017 it seems) and really enjoying the vocal performance of Malin Hartelius.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I was listening to the second Schoenberg SQ last night (Ardittis, on youtube) and was looking around for a well recommended alternative listen to the Lasalles in the quartets .

Can't find a thread on hear that seems to cover it, so any thoughts welcome.
My luxury option for Schoenberg Quartets is the Leipzigers, but then they are my choice in almost anything if they've recorded it.....trouble is, MDG are very sparing in their streamability.
Some time since I played through the set... previously liked the New Vienna Quartet on a 1999 Philips Duo (rec. 1967), the Juilliards mono one (1950-52) on United Archives....

Latest release I recall of the intégrale was this one from the Asasello Quartet -

.... haven't heard it, but it reviewed well. (Gramophone 9/16, Editor's Choice. PC's review goes into some detail, and finally he seems to feel that it's honours even with the Diotimas (6/16))
Very tempting, and here I am trying to cut expenditure....

I have both of these. The Aron are marvellous if somewhat reserved and occasionally lacking in that final milligram of passion; the Diotima give the finest performances of all of this repertoire that I have ever heard (and I once heard them live playing the C# minor quartet of a composer whose name doesn't even need to be mentioned - and I had to be scraped off the back wall of the hall thereafter, so searingly beautiful was it)...

The recommendations for the Diotima are well founded it seems. ( well of course they are.....)

The fourth mvt of the second quartet is quite magical. And not just that movement , obviously......
