OK, that explains it. I have that Jansons B9. I find it to be like every one of his recordings since he left Oslo. Well played, tidily executed, not particularly memorable

I'm scheduled (if all goes well) to be singing in a performance of Elgar's The Black Night, next year. Not many recordings, I must listen to the Hickox.

          Bartok. String Quartets.

          The Lindsay Quartet.

I’ve never really associated The Lindsays with this music but they play it extremely well.

I don't have their recording, but I heard the Lindsays play the cycle twice when they were resident at Manchester University. My favourite recording of these is the Hungarian Quartet on DG; I have this on vinyl LP and do not know if it is available on CD,

And in tune, or did they come Cropper?

They studied the Bartok quartets with Sándor Végh and Vilmos Tátrai, so surely they knew them intimately.

Milhaud: L'Homme et son désir (Abravanel). Possibly my favourite Milhaud work.

Though my introduction to the work and this recording was via:

There is also a recording with Milhaud conducting the piece, but I think the Abravanel the better.
