As luck would have it I've just found Leonard Rose in the Brahms Double Concerto with Stern and the Philadelphia Orchestra under Ormandy, at one of my browse visits to Gramex. It's a fine performance but somewhat marred by the very fierce close up recording.

The coupling on this old CBS Masterworks disc is a really splendid Beethoven Triple with Rudolph Serkin, Jaime Laredo and Leslie Parnas with Alexander Schneider conducting the Marlboro Festival orchestra. I don't know anything about Leslie Parnas ,but he makes a great impression here.
I would certainly seek out a remastering of this coupling if Sony have issued one.

That's an interesting coupling FF as Stern Rose and Istomin also recorded the Triple with Ormandy which one might expect to have been coupled with their Double .

The remastering of the Double on the coupling with Stern's Brahms Concerto is not dated so not sure if it is any better . Leslie Parnas I see turns up on a live recording of the Double with Menuhin conducted by Casals in 1969 on a search on Presto .

Couplings can be so odd, can't they? My copy of the Triple with Stern, Rose and Istomin is coupled with Leon Fleisher's Beethoven Emperor with the Cleveland and Szell, that's a great set of all the Beethoven Piano Concertos.

About seven years ago I heard Danjulo Ishizaka playing Kodaly in a proms chamber concert. Driving over a wild wet Scottish Moor at the time, I had to stop and listen. I have just found out the player's name, and that he has produced a CD which includes the Kodaly. Can't wait to hear it.

Natalie Clein has also recorded the Kodály solo sonata and it's very good indeed.

It certainly is - I have it (alongside Janos Starker's ) - and not only that, we saw her play it , round about the time she recorded it, at our local venue, along with a Bach cello suite. She's a bit of a regular here - she did a duo recital with Kathryn Stott a year or two before that.

So I'll raise you your , and if necessary fight you

I wonder how long it'll be until she records the Bach 'cello Suites.

Well, she's just recorded the three by Bloch (which I don't know, and discovered had been written for Zara Nelsova).
Bloch, Ligeti & Dallapiccola: Suites for solo cello. Hyperion: CDA68155. Buy CD or download online. Natalie Clein (cello)
