Marginally on the Women Composers thread, it's good that young composers are being involved in the project (women, at that! - Anna Meredith in Ten Pieces I, Anna Clyne in Ten Pieces II).

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

And a non-Caucasian composer too! But otherwise much of the list looks like "classical pieces you're likely to encounter anyway in non-classical contexts". But if I may correct you: this material is in fact for 7-14 year olds, for the 17-18 academic year.

I beg your pardon, I am not well up on such things. I took it that they had done Primary (I) and Secondary (II) and this was for students at the older end. Yes, 2017-2018, not 17-18 year olds.

Though I wouldn't be persuaded that even some of the more mm-ish? (my meaning in the OP) pieces in the list are very likely to be be encountered as anything more than - at best - a virtually unnoticed background sound.
