It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Another sad loss to the musical world: one sometimes thinks that singers etc are immortal, but I'm afraid it isn't the case. I have several recordings, of course, but I was fortunate to see Herr Moll at Covent Garden in a cameo role as the Pope in Pfitzner's 'Palestrina' some years ago.
