Not very original but, yes - My favourite for Osmin.

Magnificent Gurnemanz on the Kubelik Munich Parsifal.

              Also:
König Marke on the Carlos Kleiber Tristan,
Most recently acquired: I have really relished his two CDs of Loewe Balladen on cpo.

And on the Karajan BPO - absolutely nails the sense of weltschmerz. Also Pogner on my favourite Meistersinger (Sawallisch/Bavarian).

I haven't heard the Karajan (yet) but remember reading that DG held back the earlier recorded Kubelik to protect Karajan. Kubelik got stuck in Bavarian Radio's archive for over twenty years before appearing on the Arts Archives label.

And here Osmin (sorry, I really love this - and it shows off the comic performance perfectly).

Is that correct that the D here is the lowest note written for the human voice in opera?

Aria of Osmin, from Die Entführung aus dem Serail, a Mozartian Singspiel. The aria includes a low D, the lowest note written for the human voice in opera.Kurt...

Another sad loss to the musical world: one sometimes thinks that singers etc are immortal, but I'm afraid it isn't the case. I have several recordings, of course, but I was fortunate to see Herr Moll at Covent Garden in a cameo role as the Pope in Pfitzner's 'Palestrina' some years ago.

                          RIP Kurt
