Today's i paper reports that the Estonian composer Veljo Tormis died in Tallinn on Saturday last aged 86. Tormis was probably the best-known Estonian composer after Arvo Part and was best-known for his choral works, in many of which he made use of old Estonian vocal styles. There are several recordings of his music available: I have Curse Upon Iron (also the title of his best-known opus) by the Swedish group Orphei Draengar on BIS and will play some tracks from it before I go to bed this evening.
