I'll chuck into the mix the Scottish Chamber Orchestra for their style and substance.

The first time I heard the Jerusalem Quartet play Haydn was a revelation. Marvellously natural music making.
As far as the LPO is concerned, I should have mentioned them, as I have worked with their brass section for a few years with the school where I work.

After this evening’s concert at the RFH, another thumbs-up for the London Philharmonic orchestra. The UK’s current best orchestra?

Lucky devil! I was all set to go last night when my bad back decided to give way and leave me in agony on the bathroom floor! Better today though.

I was particularly looking forward to VW9 ah well!

What, no mention of the Academy of St. Martins in the Fields in the 1970s? When I was a student back then I used to turn on the radio every morning when I woke up and let R3 bring me into consciousness. I remember doing that and thinking, on hearing that piece of Mozart played by the ASMF, that is just the most amazing performance of anything I've ever heard. It might have been the Argo LP of Mozart Divertimenti, I think.

That was a classic record for me too, ums. Wasn't it coupled with the Serenata Notturno and Eine Kleine?

Sorry hear about your back. Fortunately, Jurowski and the LPO will be busy over the next 12 months, so further equivalently interesting concerts will be given.

I do rather like Vladimir Jurowski. His concert programmes certainly do rather seem to be more ambitious, than others? I have his recent Tchaikovsky recordings and they do rather extoll quite a lot of Slavic white-heat!!
