Radio 3 is just now playing his conducted performance of the suite from Roussel's Le festin de l'araignee - what a lovely work with which to commemorate him.

Indeed, one of my favourite conductors. RIP

Sad, sad, sad. Instant thoughts of R & J, "A glooming peace this morning with it brings.
The sun for sorrow will not show his head...". Even as i wrote, I had to stop and listen to his recordings on R3 and must play his memorable NY concert, an off-air DVD, this afternoon.
        RIP Georges Pretre

France Musique is devoting the whole of today's schedule to the great man.

Fairly lengthy obit in today's Times, if anyone's interested (£1.20 unless you're a subscriber).
