    Heinrich Schiff. R.I.P

Just reading tributes on twitter about the sad death of this wonderful 'cellist and conductor, aged 65.

Thank you for the music, maestro.

(It would seem 2016 is not finished with early deaths!)

I am sure that The Grim Reaper has been most vigilant in the execution of their vile work. A true master of his instrument. His Bach was sublime. RIP

Apparently he had a stroke some years ago that forced him to give up the cello

Very, very sad. What a loss.

Last night I played his Shostakovich Concerto disc with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra and Maxim Shostakovich. Great performances and rather poignant the way the Second Concerto ends with time ticking away in the percussion and then just stops.
