    Best of British

No doubt there are contractual difficulties to overcome, but I've often wondered about BBC commissions, premieres at the Proms and elsewhere.Interesting pieces are performed for the first time, but then they seem to disappear. Things have improved with online facilities, but many of us don't use streaming or downloads.

How nice it would be to have a better opportunity to hear some works again.

At last BBC MM has met the challenge with this month's cover disc, which gives us the chance to hear compositions by Matthew Kelly, Gary Carpenter, Jonathan Harvey, Ravel, ( Arr. Colin Matthews) judith Weir, Malcolm Arnold, David Sawer, John McCabe and Tammas Slater. We are also able to hear five different BBC orchestras, the BBC Singers and Symphony Chorus.

So far I haven't heard every item, but both performances and recordings sound spectacular

To quote Enid Sidcup on the Radio Times letters page " Well done, BBC! " ( Sorry, I made that one up.)

Wow! I don't normally obtain this periodical, so thanks for drawing attention to this month's edition, Ferret.
