    Archiving a composer's papers?

Not sure this is the right forum for this question, but I assume a host will move it if not.

A relation of a friend of mine has very recently passed away and her possessions have been found to include a number of papers originally belonging to her grandfather, a British light music composer named Herman Finck (1872 - 1939). A quick Google search reveals that he was music director of the Palace Theatre in London for 20 years and composed a number of operettas, shows and songs (including In the Shadows, apparently one of the last pieces played on the Titanic).

The question is: who should my friend contact for advice on where he could get these papers archived (or indeed on whether they are worth archiving)?

My immediate thought was of the British Light Music Society - which has a library and archive devoted to the topic.

Thanks fg, I didn't know there was such a body, but should have thought of the possibility myself nevertheless!

I always thought that the library was full of Ernest Tomlinson scores and located in the Lancashire hills out in the middle of nowhere?

IIRC, Morecambe. Tomlinson was their Patron, and donated his archive to the Society, but Binge, Farnon and all the boys in that particular band are represented.
