    Tanzania's Only Classical Conductor

Forum members may be interested in this link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-36516242. It contains a clip of Hakim Raymond, who has gathered a chorus and orchestra in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. The clip also shows him rehearsing the chorus and orchestra in Beethoven's 9th Symphony; the chorus sings in Swahili! Given the well-publicised problems facing classical music in many African countries, including South Africa and especially Zimbabwe, this will gladden the hearts of all classical music lovers!

Interesting too that BBC News online bothered to report it. They don't often have any items about classical music even on the Entertainment & Arts page.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
