    Bax Symphonies

Picked up a cheapish 2nd hand copy of these (Handley) from Wax Factor in Brighton. Any suggestions on where to start? Only Bax I know is Garden of Fand

FWIW, I would start at 1 and work upwards - took me a while to acquire the Bax taste.

I've got the Handley set but really struggle to 'get' Bax. I've not played any of it for quite some time so might take up visualnickmos's suggestion in the hope that something happens.

I had the Naxos set and none of it ever clicked for me.

Try the two Chandos cycles, of Thomson and Handley!!! That should crack it for you, RFG!! :)

For me, I clicked eventually with the Naxos set! I think it might be a case of Bax just not doing it for you, regardless of who is playing...? I could be wrong.

Thanks Ferney. Sounds like 2, 3 or 6. Haven't got round to the Bax as I also bought the Elgar VC with Takezawa, Colin Davis and the BRSO - ravishing!

I've tried other recordings, and Bax and I just aren't meant for each other

That's the way it is, sometimes. But credit where credit's due - you tried.
