I remember now that I had their lp of the Borodin Qts. I remember it as a clear eyed account, not lacking in passion but not over sentimentalize as the Borodin Quartet

I must find time to listen again to their LP of the Sibelius and Delius Quartets.

It was a real pleasure to hear the Fitzwilliam String Quartet perform a cycle of the DSCH String Quartets, plus early evening platform talks, over a few weeks, at the Wigmore Hall in the
late 70s. Indeed, I also heard them at our Jack Lyons concert hall when I retired to York in the 90s. A real delight to hear Alan George as guest presenter at my first meeting of the York RMS in 2014 and share the frisson they must have felt when Shostakovich stayed overnight at the Station Hotel and heard them play one of his later quartets. Alan has no airs or graces in talking about his well-grounded experience and was given a prolonged ovation.
