    Schoenberg's "Weinachtsmusik"

I just love this work by Schoenberg which, I'm told, is an arrangement of a traditional carol. I could hear "Silent Night" but nothing else was familiar. In any case I love this gentle piece and its accompanying artwork.

I appear to have mis-spelled in my thread title!! Weihnachtsmusik.

    Tetrachord,

Wholeheartedly agreed. It's a beautiful, understatedly moving little work. Aside from "Silent Night" the work opens with the melody and chord progressions of the hymn by Michael Praetorius, known in English as "A Great and Mighty Wonder".

Thanks ever so much for finding and posting this. Just fancy, he composed it right at the point when he was embarking on his 12-tone period! As a lover of Schoenberg's music I have to admit to not having known of the piece's existence until now.
