I can name two of the three, Jesse Norman's 4 last songs and Tennstedt's Hary Janos and Lieutenant Kije, both new out so it must have been about 1984. They were so expensive and so was the player.

I was a bit disappointed with the sound of both, after all the hype I expected a bigger improvement over LPs. Listening again this morning on more modern equipment, I find the Tennstedt sound (and perfomances) very good indeed. The Strauss sound is not so good, rather harsh and glassy is the best way I can describe it, sadly it's never been a favourite performance either.
