I must confess that I hadn't realised she was still with us. Ferney's reference to the Sargent G and S recordings reminds me of how I first encountered her voice; she seems to have retired very young (not quite 40). RIP.

Hers was indeed a lovely voice, not just in the G&S recordings mentioned by ferney but also in Beecham's recording of Handel's Solomon, my first encounter with that work and still a recording I greatly value.
