Even as one who doesn't do it, I must ask from where on earth you got that idea.

Who is this "we"? Everyone here is either a lady or a savage.

I think that it's probably that self-same "we" to which/whom Sydney Grew so often has recourse and, as far as I understand the intended meaning of such use of it (which I'm not convinced is all that far), it embraces a kind of arrogant assumption in seeking to connote "me and, because I'm right in what I say, everyone else thinks as I do".

!!! - and I might have especial title to the latter as I studied with Stephen of that ilk...

... of course one of the markers of a gentleman is that he wd never refer to himself as a gentleman

              Quite so!

Someone I know who studied at Cheltenham Ladies' College once said to me that she's never understood why she was expected to attend there as she was neither a Dame in her own right nor married to a knight of the realm...

Anyway, we have a running thread about the "point" of music - what music is "for" - yet on his present form I rather doubt that our resident Tippster would have anything much of use to contribute to a parallel one about the "point" of dancing...

I presumed it was a typo for "wee" - after all, no well-educated person would say "for we gentlemen" (or "for we ladies"). ("For unto we a Son is born"?)

                  That must be the explanation!

I had thought it was an examle of the hypercorrection so typical of the socially insecure.

But if we did I would bet that it would be full of strong opinions from those who don't, or never have, done it!
So just like Ian's nonsense about being unable to comprehend that music can take more forms than what he considers to be "Jazz".

The phrase that springs to mind is "the floor is your friend"

                        - that is to say, people for whom a fundamental aspect of almost all music must remain unexperienced and unknowable...

Have you ever vacationed there from wherever your own planet of residency/domicile is located? Just curious!
