DIY piano tuning. Have you done it?

You will all be pleased to know that I forked out and paid a professional tuner to pop out and do the deed (and get it up to a decent pitch!)

I forebore to add yet another cry to the chorus recommending against you fiddling before you tinkle....

As one who has started to tinkle much more of late (I battled through a couple of Shostakovich Preludes and half a Fugue yesterday! ), feeling the fingers coming back to it and looking forward to doing much more in the very near future, I wish you all joy of it !

...and, when I was a child, the piano tuner asked my mother to heat the poker in fire in order to do something unspeakable to some part of the instrument...

It was never the same again.

And we found a different piano tuner...

Ah yes - the "Edward II School of Piano Tuning" ...

I have found that not all piano technicians (it isn't only the tuning that counts) are created equal and when you find the one who is right for your joanna, don't let him go - oddly I've never come across a female piano technician.
