A New Trifle

My 'ex' has just completed a Doctorate and asked if I could contribute to a recital later this year as a celebration. So I wrote her this. It is (as usual) computer-generated and not very well realised, but it gives an idea of the piece.

Lovely piece, Pabs - I'm very fond of trifle!

I hope that very soon it finds a performance with a better pianist - the artificial one sounds very nervous, as if anxious to get through the piece as quickly as it can for fear of making mistakes! (In fact - apart from the fact that it doesn't make any mistakes - it sounds like me on a good day!)

In the spirit of the board, I would say that I can't imagine anybody giving this trifle The Bird.


And heading towards Pedants paradise, I had no idea that flipping the bird was American slang for the finger.

Surely the term " Giving the bird" used to mean a general kind of abuse/disapproval from an audience, not something so specific, and well, not nice ?

Well done‼ I was told that doing PhD as a mature student risked:
Marriage break up
Mental breakdown
and a total disappearance of social life.

I hope none of this applies to your ex- but beware of post PhD syndrome. Offer her something very difficult to play to keep her brain from a sudden halt.

It should get at least one decent performance in a few weeks, and I'm sure I'll hear a recording. (These artificial sounds are atrocious, aren't they? But what a boon once your ear adjusts a little.)
