    .
Cette figure de la musique contemporaine, qui fut aussi un redoutable polémiste à l’origine de l’appel à « brûler les maisons d’opéra », s’est éteinte, mardi, à l’âge de 90 ans.

Terrible, terrible news; the single most important Musician my lifetime; and a whole, miraculous era of Music comes to a close. RIP, maestro - and thank you.

          RIP, Pierre Boulez.
One of the giants of music has left us. This is awful news, though he's been very ill for a couple of years. I had the incredible pleasure of meeting him a few times, and shared a study day with him and others at the Festival Messiaen au Pays de la Meije in 2010, when he was still on wonderful form. These are memories I'll cherish.

I'm just listening to Gesang der Jungelinge on COTW as I read this news.

I'll dedicate this listening to your memory, Pierre.

I heard him conduct once - Bartok, Concerto for Orchestra with the VPO at the RFH in 1999. I was in the presence of a legend.

I performed with him on two occasions, Daphnis & Chloe and Glagolitic Mass. Awesome.

                      RIP, Maestro.

I was lucky enough to hear him conduct his Ensemble Intercontemporane in the late 1980's at the Ecinburgh Festival.

                      A real loss to music.

He was one of the greatest intellects and most influential figures in music in the 20th century - a great loss indeed. The thing which stands out for me is the unshakeable integrity in everything he said and did. Strange that he should die during R3's new music season - suspect that there will be some hurried reorganisation of schedules over the next few days.

                            Sad news

Remember him doing Gurrelieder at the Proms with the NYO. He achieved miraculous ensemble of an enormous ensemble with no baton. The NYO also had the Boulez "sound"!

It would be appropriate if R3 could manage a bit of rescheduling before the end of this New Year, New Music week

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
