I always give Maddy Prior's Tapestry of Carols a spin on Christmas morning as an antidote to the cathedral sound that tends to prevail otherwise.

Just to flag up that on Radio 4extra from Monday each day at 2.15pm for 2 weeks, another outing for Jeremy Summerly's excellent series about the history of Christmas carols, A Cause for Carolling
I have it all recorded from its R4 outing last year, and it's a great series for festive travelling!"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I must listen on iPlayer, picking my way along the music - morning or afternoon, I might even give the buzzy / electronic stuff (sorry if thats an inadequate description) a go......... (Another benefit of the iPlayer!).

One piece I've found myself returning to over the past few years is Honegger's Une Cantate de Noel
Arthur Honegger (1892-1955): Une Cantate de Noël, per baritono, coro di voci bianche, coro e orchestra su testi liturigici e popolari (H. 212) (1952/1953) --...

And another version that I noticed while watching yours, Padraig (so thank you) - interesting story behind the music, judging by the comments (carollers not quite together at times Charming!)
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

clive heath
What with the Winter Equinox only a short while away (when the days start to get longer again) here are some of my favourite seasonal and, I hope, reasonably worldly musical items.
"La Peregrinacion" from "Nuestra Natividad" which you can find on youtube here
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
for both Misa Criolla and Nuestra Natividad. "La Peregrinacion" is approx. 18: 38 mins in.
"Black Nativity" , this show was at the Piccadilly Theatre for a while. on tour. Gospel with great organ and piano backing! (Smaller forces than Padraig's gospel group!)
and finally: Sammy Davis Jr.and a children's choir who will melt your heart if you're a soppy date like me. Merry Christmas Everybody!
