        Bah Humbug.

This thread should shortly be moving to an appropriate place.

The St John's version of Britten's Ceremony of Carols with a glass of fizz mid morning, then it's Bah! Humbug!

Is it fanciful to imagine that the writer of Once In Royal David's City could look over the City Walls of Londonderry from the Bishop's palace to the poor and mean and lowly of Derry's Bogside?

Leonard Bernstein and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir do the honours.

Since this topic has been moved I don't want to continue. I had hoped for a different take than 'What's Your Favourite Christmas Music'?' which is why I chose World Music. However the idea did not catch on, so here endeth as far as I'm concerned.

Good to see Maestro Jurowski rattling a doubtless rhythmic bucket....!

PS: it's at Waterloo Station, btw.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

                      was that today, Cals?

No sign of festively cheery music when I was there today.

It was all advent delays and seasonal points failures.

Edit: i feel sure that the maestro left a suitable gap for the music to fade away before starting his rattling duties.....

Monteverdi Choir - Es Ist Ein Ros Entsprungen

                              (Michael Praetorius)

Disclaimer: I do not own this!Es ist ein Ros entsprungen, most commonly translated to English as Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming, is a Christmas carol of German...

There was a wonderful version by the Allmanna Sangen on LJ earlier today.

Thanks for this. Never managed to get on with LJ (which I apprecate, has a following here). I can't get on with the electronic sound stuff interleaved with Roots, etc music - not at that time of night. But I now see that in the iPlayer its segmented to the pieces. I must listen on iPlayer, picking my way along the music - morning or afternoon, I might even give the buzzy / electronic stuff (sorry if thats an inadequate description) a go......... (Another benefit of the iPlayer!).
