Playing the RVW Christmas Fantasia today reminded me of the truly magical experience of leading it in a performance given by our school choir at the crowded local Norman parish church in Surrey, at age 17 - the nave and chancels illuminated by hundreds of flickering candles alone. Probably be a H&S issue today.
