Mrs. Payne is Cathy's junior by some 13 years. In the late '60s or very early '70s I recall Sarah Walker playing the Cathy role at a concert on the South Bank, performing Cage and, indeed, Berberian.

I think it is very unfair to compare her to Amy Winehouse ( a great artist Back to Black is one of the best popular music albums of all time Amy W had the talent of Ella or Billie but her love of the latter was horribly mirrored in her tragic life only at an even younger age ) .

To compare the two is liking criticising Boyce for not being Bach, Stanford for not being Brahms or a chestnut mushroom for not being a truffle.

Indeed - I think the trouble I had is that the claims I'd heard made for Adele suggested that I should be expecting that sort of quality.

I find Adele's songs/albums to be too samey - a good pop artist - if that's not an oxymoron - brings IMVVHO a lot of variety to their albums and stage shows ......

Indeed so; whilst it would be dishonest of me to try to feign more that the merest interest in what she did, it was so clearly on so much higher a level than the egregious Adele's achievements to date...
