Can't share that one at all, I'm afraid; I was more inclined towards Jane Manning at that time (though vocally and not in the "crush" sense, you understand)...

Wasn't she a contemporary of Cathy Berberian and doing similarly different new stuff.
.....interesting how prepared we are to go off topic to avoid Adele!

Mrs. Payne is Cathy's junior by some 13 years. In the late '60s or very early '70s I recall Sarah Walker playing the Cathy role at a concert on the South Bank, performing Cage and, indeed, Berberian.

Ah, yes - the OTHER Sarah Walker; she's hardly been known for that kind of thing in the years since, though, has she?

Where do you suppose the term "Yule" came from if it was not Brigstowe?

But I thought that I already had (at least by implication)! If the message hadn't gotten through, however, you have only to discover evidence by partaking of midnight mass on Christmas Eve at the Chiesal di Santal Marial del Precipitatol Rossol (as Bristol's real Cathedral [sorry!] is known - to some)...

Speaking of the Beeb (as the thread topic does), we've not seen a Del boy thereon for years...

Bristol is far too deep into England for me to be near there on Christmas Eve.

OK; can't be helped, I suppose. Shame that you can't take a Delta airlines flight there and back to save some time...

Indeed - I think the trouble I had is that the claims I'd heard made for Adele suggested that I should be expecting that sort of quality.

I find Adele's songs/albums to be too samey - a good pop artist - if that's not an oxymoron - brings IMVVHO a lot of variety to their albums and stage shows ......

ah: doesn't this render Adele merely gregious, or perhaps ingregious?
