Of course I know that; my post was intended to be no more than frivolous and it would be a pity were it to be taken to be more than that!

Oh, mon Dieu! - a second member who's taking my post at the face value at which it was never intended to be taken! And no, for the record, I don't live in an airport; how awful it would be not to be able to get through passport control or Customs in one's own home without being arrested and detained!...

Dunno, Tammy; better ask him, I guess (and evidence here suggests that you know the meaning of the word "better" even if some others here appear not to do so)...

On a thread where it's so important to take sides, you can't be too careful!

Evidently so - but personally I prefer to take sides only in order to leave them out in the cold where they belong!

By the way, I would never accuse Marc-André Hamelin of being tyrannical, but he has written a player-piano piece which is entitled Pop Music for the sole and simple reason that it's based on Pop goes the weasel, although I will spare you all any weasel words about it...

Well I'm sure he'd have the same view as you. I know I am going against a long held tradition, but yes, feel free to relate what a prat you are having to contend with on the FoR3 forum :)

Wow, thanks for having a listen Gongers, but be aware, is the muddled mess (and the details) to which you refer, solely to do with the volume levels? Each audio item should sound as if it is coming from near enough the same distance (bearing in mind the loud sections are compressed).

But the fact of the matter is that they are. OK, so not completely on Radio 3, I'll give 'em that, but still way too much for my ears. I still jump out of my skin if I miss getting to the volume control before the ending of a big orchestral piece and the presenter comes on at virtually the same volume. Gee whizzo!

If you bothered to educate yourself about how the perception of volume in music relates to many other factors (as I mentioned in #418) you would maybe have a little understanding of how these things work.
The perception of "distance" and spatialisation is NOT solely related to volume but lots of other things as well but you can't be arsed to consider them. (#419)

If you COMPRESS the audio you are likely to reduce the perception of spatialisation within the sound image (unless you really know how to do multi-band compression as well as geniuses like Dallas Simpson)

Oh I did, but then the spelling of the OP title was corrected, so it no longer applied,, and I deleted the post.

The first album was the link, BTW.
