Indeed so; he's had so much to put up with in recent years, not least his earlier struggles with leukæmia. How he's managed to keep going and write as much as he has remains a mystery but is also a testament to his courage and determination to overcome his adversities.

        Fingers and all else crossed!

Looks like Sir Simon and Sir Peter have patched up their differences.

Getting older is really no joke, is it? Very best wishes to him.

I dislike the expression 'battling with cancer'.

My best wishes to Sir Peter, too.

Coincidentally, hmvman, of this forum, arrived a few weeks ago to drive me to the monthly meeting of the York Recording Music Society - we meet again on Sat, 17th when he is the speaker! - and I invited him in to see the latest bungalow renovations. The first thing he noticed was a framed portrait of PMD at his Orkney residence, seated next to his horned gramophone. Back in the early 80s, I contacted him by phone, and he gave me the rights to this portrait for use in a COI documentary promoting the arts in the UK. I wanted to check the availability of The Fires of London musicians but they were absent on tour and PMD was flat-sitting at SW7. A most generous man.

Yes, I knew about that. She has said that it doesn't feel like a battle. I do wish people would stop using the expression.

Sean R has just played Sir Peter playing Farewell to Stromness, by way of sending best wishes.

Think I'll dig out the lovely Timothy Walker guitar transcription and give it another go - bottom string down to D which sounds tremendous on new strings (changed them the other day )
